David A. Kolb's Learning Cycle
(1984)
David A. Kolb published the learning styles model in 1984. And he discussed that the people is having different four ways of learning with their own way of characteristics. First, he noted that there are two ways of learning by experience as that having concrete experiences (someone learns by specific experience), or having abstract conceptualization (learns by thinking and analyzing).
And Kolb express that there is another opposite
way of these experiences such as by actively experimenting (means that people
get themselves physically involved with the experienced), or by reflective observation.(is that someone simply reflects on observe
some experience)
Finally, Kolb designed this diagram to understand
the learning cycle where each stage can learn effectively during experience.
Brief descriptions of
each style is as below as quoted by Businessballs website. The Diverging Style means that the different angles that people can look into. Where it is sensitive and prefer to watch than doing. This can lead to gathering information to support solving problems. Kolb called this style as 'Diverging' since the people prefer to do better at the conditions when idea generation is booming like brainstorming. Tend to have broad cultural interests and prefer to collect information that who is having this Diverging Learning style. These types of people wish to do work in groups while having feedbacks personally while being imaginative and emotional.
The Assimilating Style is that the integration of learning briefs in a logical method. Ideas and concepts more important than public and it requires strong explanations rather than practical opportunities. And it expresses that vast area of logical organization of information. People with this style are more interested in ideas and summarization concepts than people. These segments more towards logically sound theories than findings based on practical values. Moreover, they prefer readings, lectures, exploring analytical models and having time on thinking.
The Converging Style is that the people who tend to gather and solve issues practically while using their learnings. Mostly directed with technical aspects than people-oriented. These style specialist on technology skills and like to experiment with new concepts, to simulate and to work with practical scenarios.
The Accommodating Style is that learning on hands-on while relying on intuition than logic. Manage to use other person analysis while attracted by new challenges and experiences. Generally, these type of style people work on ‘Gut’ nature than logical study. These learn to like to actively work in teams while having desired on achieving tasks and targets actively and in different ways.

ReplyDeleteThe basic fundamentals of learning is explained in your words. I would be delighted to see how to custom made learning to your trade.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting topic. All four stages were well explained. This theory emphasized that when the learner progresses through the cycle, effective learning can be seen. Further, the learner can also join the loop with a logical sequence at any point of the cycle. Applying the cycle in to the relevant trade and implementing the same is utmost important.
ReplyDeleteyou have explained good theory with sufficient theories, but if you can refer more than articles and you can clearly be explained how to apply theories to reality than this article. anyway very helpful article
ReplyDeleteclearly explained the theories.
